You can read my review of  Elemental - here, Storm - here, Spark - here, Breathless - hereSpirit - here. & Secret - here.
Earth. Fire. Air. Water.

One misstep and they lose it all. For the last time.

Michael Merrick understands pressure. He's the only parent his three brothers have had for years. His power to control Earth could kill someone if he miscalculates. Now an Elemental Guide has it in for his family, and he's all that stands in the way.

His girlfriend, Hannah, understands pressure too. She's got a child of her own, and a job as a firefighter that could put her life in danger at any moment.

But there are people who have had enough of Michael's defiance, his family's 'bad luck'. Before he knows it, Michael's enemies have turned into the Merricks' enemies, and they're armed for war.

They're not interested in surrender. But Michael isn't the white flag type anyway. Everything is set for the final showdown.

Four elements, one family. Will they hold together, or be torn apart?

I started reading this series with the novella Elemental, which is the story of a 17 years old Michael Merrick, now with Sacrifice the series comes to an end with the book of a 22 years old Michael, he´s the older brother and guardian of the Merricks, he´s the head of the household, with a lot of responsibilities and he´s always trying to keep at bay his brothers which is not an easy task. But now things are getting complicated because the Elemental Guides will not leave them alone, through the series they had faced several Guides, because they want to annihilate them just because they´re pure Elemental, which makes them worthy of a death sentence due to their affinity with their element is too strong and sometimes they can control their powers and are feared by how easy they can use their ability to harm others.

But now the new Elemental Guide that arrives to town is willing to do anything to kill the Merricks and that Guide doesn´t care about collateral damage and begins with an attack that leaves them with nothing, and leaving Michael as the main suspect, and he slowly starts to lose everything, that´s why he´s always stressed and feeling lost at times and his main concern is to keep his brothers safe, which is proving increasingly difficult.

About the romance between Hannah and Michael is almost nil, since they has been dating for a while and they´re sort of drifting apart because he wants to keep her safe, but he doesn´t give her explanations.

I have to say that after reading Spirit, I realized that no one has a secure place in the Elemental series, but I still ....didn´t saw coming ......something that happens in this story, it was so unexpected and I'm still in shock.

In Sacrifice, almost all the characters from previous books do a cameo (we get so see some more than others) and although I would have liked to get a bigger dose of Chris, Gabriel, Nick and Hunter; but I understand that this is the story of Michael. The ending was okay, but I don´t like open endings and I felt it a little abrupt, but I accept it, and to some extent it makes sense and is a good ending. But I really hope this isn´t the end and we get at least a novella (because I need some answers) or a spin-off (I can dream).

The Elemental Series is a series that I liked a lot (some books more than others), but after 5 books and 3 novellas...the story of the Merrick brothers and Hunter comes to an end (NO !!!).

You can read my review of The Burning Sky - here
After spending the summer away from each other, Titus and Iolanthe (still disguised as Archer Fairfax) are eager to return to Eton College to resume their training to fight the Bane. Although no longer bound to Titus by a blood oath, Iolanthe is more committed than ever to fulfilling her destiny—especially with the agents of Atlantis quickly closing in.

Soon after arriving at school, though, Titus makes a shocking discovery, one that makes him question everything he previously believed about their mission. Faced with this devastating realization, Iolanthe is forced to come to terms with her new role, while Titus must choose between following his mother's prophecies—and forging a divergent path to an unknowable future.

This book is perfect!. One of the best I've read this year and definitely this trilogy will be among my favorites of all time. It's a great fantasy story.

The book is divided into two time frames: the present and 7 weeks before; told from Titus and Iolanthe´s POVs. In the present we find a girl and a boy, they wake up in the Sahara Desert, and neither knows their name or any personal information, but they can remember that they´re mages and everything about their world and that they should stay away from Atlantis agents, so the two decide to join forces to keep each other safe, even though at the beginning they´re cautious and aren´t sure about where their alliances are, but over time they begin to trust each other . What I liked a lot of this time is the dynamic between the characters, the unknown and the chemistry between them.

While in the past we see Iolanthe (as Fairfax) and Titus returning to Eton College in London, after being apart all summer, thus restoring their romantic relationship and also following the steps necessary for their mission and training because at some point they will face the Bane. But something gets in their plans, something that could ruin everything that Titus has seen as his destiny all his life and begins to question many of his decisions and steps he had taken so far.

Iolanthe (Fairfax) and Titus are wonderful characters in this sequel and we get to know a little more about Iolanthe, but also got to know more about the boys living in Eton College and the origins of some of them, and how they´ll play a more important role in the plot.

The Perilous Sea is an excellent second book in a trilogy, in it we found some answers to many of the questions from the first book, such as to why the Bane is desperately seeking Iolanthe, also more information about the Bane and other details about Iolanthe.

I really  really loved this book! It´s a perfect combination of romance, friendship, lovable characters, action, magic, suspense, mystery and unexpected twists and turns that had me glued to the book all the time. I highly recommended this book.

Now, I desperately need the third and final book of this amazing trilogy.

Waiting On Wednesday (140): A Darker Shade of Magic

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The book I´m waiting this week is

A Darker Shade of Magic (A Darker Shade of Magic #1) by V.E. Schwab
Release date: February 24th 2015
From V.E. Schwab, the critically acclaimed author of Vicious, comes a new universe of daring adventure, thrilling power, and parallel Londons, beginning with A Darker Shade of Magic.

Kell is one of the last Travelers—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel universes—as such, he can choose where he lands.

There’s Grey London, dirty and boring, without any magic, ruled by a mad King George. Then there’s Red London, where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne—a place where people fight to control magic, and the magic fights back, draining the city to its very bones. And once upon a time, there was Black London...but no one speaks of that now.

Officially, Kell is the Red Traveler, personal ambassador and adopted Prince of Red London, carrying the monthly correspondences between the royals of each London. Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see—a dangerous hobby, and one that has set him up for accidental treason. Fleeing into Grey London, Kell runs afoul of Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations, who first robs him, then saves him from a dangerous enemy, and then forces him to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

But perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, Kell and Lila will first need to stay alive—and that is proving trickier than they hoped.

Why I'm Waiting?
The story sounds really really good and although I haven´t read any book by this author I´ve read some great reviews about her books.

Review: Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini

This world is trying to kill Lily Proctor. Her life-threatening allergies keep her from enjoying experiences that others in her hometown of Salem take for granted, which is why she is determined to enjoy her first high school party with her best friend and longtime crush, Tristan. But after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class, Lily wishes she could just disappear.

Suddenly, Lily is in a different Salem—one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruelest of them all is Lillian . . . Lily's other self in this alternate universe.

What makes Lily weak at home is what makes her extraordinary in New Salem. In this confusing world, Lily is torn between responsibilities she can't hope to shoulder alone and a love she never expected.

I really LOVED this book, the story is really good and was very original (at least for me), I love books about magic, in addition to this it has the element of parallel worlds something that I also really  enjoyed.

Lily Proctor is a sickly young girl, she´s allergic to almost everything and most of the time has very high fever. She only has one best friend Tristan, he´s very popular with the girls and apparently finally turned to look at her, but something happens and she´s devastated by that, so hen she hear a voice telling her that she should not be in this world because there is nothing for her there, she inadvertently agrees with the voice and is transported to another world, another Salem where witches are powerful and Lilian Proctor, her double in that world is the most powerful, most feared and most hated witch.

Lily doesn´t know the reason why Lilian brought her to this world, which is completely ruled by magic and is very different from hers, but she just wants to return to her own world, with her family, that´s why she ends up getting help from Rowan (which is not really happy with it at the beginning), the former mechanic (something like assistant, instructor and doctor) of Lilian and he´ll have to teach her to be a witch if she hopes to someday return to her world, but initially nobody trusts her(for her resemblance to the great witch), so she isn´t well received. Among Rowan´s friends are Tristan and Caleb, they will also help her with her task.

Trail by Fire is a great book, excellent first book in a trilogy! is full of magic, it has action, romance, great characters, some complex relationships between some characters, I loved all about the parallel worlds and the world building is very well developed, it´s a book that caught me from the first chapter. And it has a mayor cliffhanger. I'm dying to read Trail of Tears. I highly recommend it.

Review: The Vanishing Season by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Title: The Vanishing Season

Format: eARC

Rating: 3/5

Girls started vanishing in the fall, and now winter's come to lay a white sheet over the horror. Door County, it seems, is swallowing the young, right into its very dirt. From beneath the house on Water Street, I've watched the danger swell.

The residents know me as the noises in the house at night, the creaking on the stairs. I'm the reflection behind them in the glass, the feeling of fear in the cellar. I'm tied—it seems—to this house, this street, this town.

I'm tied to Maggie and Pauline, though I don't know why. I think it's because death is coming for one of them, or both.

All I know is that the present and the past are piling up, and I am here to dig.I am looking for the things that are buried.

From bestselling author Jodi Lynn Anderson comes a friendship story bound in snow and starlight, a haunting mystery of love, betrayal, redemption, and the moments that we leave behind.

This is the first book I read by Jodi Lynn Anderson. I did liked the plot, although I didn´t connect with the main characters, so I felt that I might hadn´t enjoyed it as much as expected. The Vanishing Season a book a thriller with a paranormal twist, about a girl who has just moved to a small town where girls are disappearing to later to be found dead floating in the lake.

Maggie has just moved with her parents to Door Country, she´s home schooled and doesn´t have many friends other than her new neighbor Pauline, that is a beautiful and rich girl and somewhat eccentric, plus Paulin´s best friend Liam. With them she finds a friendship that she didn´t expect to find and had good and funny moments with them, but they´re always aware of the disappearances.

The book is told from two points of views, being mostly told by Maggie´s POV, but we also get the POV of a spirit that observes the trio and knows that something bad is coming and it could hurt any of them.

This book is very beautifully written, it has lots of mystery, suspense and some romance, but there were times when I felt that nothing happened and the murders take back seat to what was happening to Maggie at the time, besides that I didn´t enjoy the love triangle. I must say that the end was unexpected and shocking, but unfortunately for that time I couldn´t care less about what happened to the characters. But I would like to read another of the books by this author.

In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.

Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who's bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.

Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn't mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn't: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between…

The Beautiful Ashes is the first book in the The Broken Destiny series, I enjoyed it but I didn´t love it as I expected, the story is okay, it´s the classic battle between good and evil and where the future of many lies in the hands of the main characters, which is nothing new.

Ivy is a young woman that all her life has seen things that are not there, dark places and in some point in her life had received psychological help. And that right now isn´t having a good week because her sister is missing and when she arrives to town to ask around about her disappearance, she´s attacked by some people and rescued/kidnapped by a mysterious man. And soon she´ll discover that what she has seen all her life were not hallucinations but she can see what happens in another dimension and its inhabitants are demons and that she will need the help of Adrian (her abductor/savior) to get back her sister.

The dimension of demons and how is ruled reminded me a lot of the Soul Screamers series demon dimensions, which is very dark, cold and extremely dangerous.

Overall, I liked the story and it had me guessing who is really Adrian, because he´s someone with many secrets, someone who does not trust easily and someone that Ivy who should not trust (his words). This story comes is part the paranormal romance New Adult genre, it´s action-packed, with romance and a little bit of mystery. The romance it felt like insta-attraction/lust, almost at first sight, but it was also handled like that are meant to attract each other.

Waiting On Wednesday (139): I Was Here

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The book I´m waiting this week is

I Was Here by Gayle Forman
Release date: January 27th 2015
Cody and Meg were inseparable.
Two peas in a pod.
Until . . . they weren’t anymore.

When her best friend Meg drinks a bottle of industrial-strength cleaner alone in a motel room, Cody is understandably shocked and devastated. She and Meg shared everything—so how was there no warning? But when Cody travels to Meg’s college town to pack up the belongings left behind, she discovers that there’s a lot that Meg never told her. About her old roommates, the sort of people Cody never would have met in her dead-end small town in Washington. About Ben McAllister, the boy with a guitar and a sneer, who broke Meg’s heart. And about an encrypted computer file that Cody can’t open—until she does, and suddenly everything Cody thought she knew about her best friend’s death gets thrown into question.

I Was Here is Gayle Forman at her finest, a taut, emotional, and ultimately redemptive story about redefining the meaning of family and finding a way to move forward even in the face of unspeakable loss.

Why I'm Waiting?
If I Stay duology is one of my favorites book ever, so I just need to own another of her books...Gayle Forman is on my auto-buy list.
