Review: Renegade by Debra Driza

Title: Renegade (MILA 2.0 #2)
Author: Debra Driza
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Release date: May 13th 2014
Source: Edelweiss
Format: eARC

Rating: 3.5/5

You can read my review of MILA 2.0 - here
There is no one left for Mila to trust. Except for a boy she barely knows.

But Hunter has no idea who—and what—Mila really is. She can’t bear to reveal her secret, even though he’s unwittingly joined her search for Richard Grady, a man who may know more details of Mila’s complicated past.

Yet the road to the truth is more dangerous than ever. With General Holland and the Vita Obscura scouring the earth for her whereabouts, Mila must rely on her newfound android abilities to protect herself and Hunter from imminent harm. Still, embracing her identity as a machine leads her to question the state of her humanity—as well as Hunter’s real motives.

Perfect for fans of I Am Number Four and Divergent, this action-packed and heart-wrenching second installment of MILA 2.0 will leave readers breathlessly awaiting the series conclusion.

Last year I read MILA 2.0 and I liked it but didn´t love it, but the ending left me intrigued so that´s why I wanted to read Renegade, because I needed to know it was going to happen with Mila and Hunter and everything that happened before, with the other characters and several questions that remained unanswered, some of which are answered in this book, but not all of them (I guess they had to leave something for the third book).

This book begins where MILA 2.0 was left, Mila and Hunter are together, he´s there to help her but he doesn´t really know anything about her, that she´s an android and there are two groups that are pursuing her because they want to grab her technology, meanwhile Mila is always aware of their surroundings and watching for potential threats.

On the previous book, Mila discovers that she's an android and was program to have feelings, but also for military purposes because she´s a lethal weapon. She didn´t want to be android, she just wants to be a normal girl (which I don´t think is possible), and to be with the boy she likes and the one that makes her feel human. Meanwhile Hunter which was briefly introduced in the previous book, in Renegade we get to know him a little more, because he spends a lot of time with Mila, the girl he likes, whom he barely know.

Overall, I really liked Renegade a bit more than the previous book but the first few chapters I felt that nothing was happening (is primarily a road trip, looking for a contact Mila´s mother told her to find), but it has suspense, is action-packed (I would have liked more action scenes) and romance (I liked the romance and the tension between them), Mila discovering her android functions and her internal struggle between wanting to be human, but also learning to live with it. And finally I got to know more about the Vita Obscura and other questions are also answered. And with its cliffhanger ending, it hooked me to read the next book.

Finished reading (last 2 weeks)
Where Things Come Back is a book that I had heard a lot of buzz in the booktube community, so I was waiting perhaps to much of it, because it didn´t blew me away but I did enjoy it even though is a really weird book.

I loved The Fault in Our Stars, I finish reading it at 3 am the day a went to see the movie. It´s a really good book.

Renegade is the second book in the MILA 2.0 trilogy, is a good book, I enjoyed it but I was expecting more action.

I really enjoyed The Art of Lainey, is a fun book about a girl that want to get back her boyfriend and she and her best friend use the book The Art of War as a to-do list about what to do to make him realize that she´s the one.

Review: Only Everything by Kieran Scott

Source: Edelweiss
Format: eARC

Rating: 2.5/5

Sometimes the gods can be so unreasonable.

Like Zeus, the king, who thinks the proper reaction to finding me kissing a mortal is to threaten my boyfriend Orion's life, banish me to Earth, and force me to inspire true love between three couples without my powers. I know! Elders! I'm Eros, a.k.a. Cupid. The Goddess of Love. Until this morning, anyway.

Now I'm stuck on Earth with no clue how to function as a human, and I can't even conjure up my magical bow and arrows to help me do my job. I've already met this amazing guy—Charlie, a new kid in school like me—but matching him up isn't as easy as I thought. Turns out opposites don't attract, nearly identicals don't attract, and giving a guy what he seems to want is just one big disaster. My sweet new friend Katrina might work, but she's got more complications than Medusa's hair, and a live-in boyfriend with a serious mean streak. Probably not the best idea to go there.

If I don't make a match, I may never see Orion again. I have so much to lose, and only everything to gain.

Only Everything is a book that is a mix of contemporary with Greek mythology elements, most of the story is told in the human world and Eros is practically a mortal most of the time (due her to her mission), but I did saw some Greek gods at the beginning. This book has three point of views, the goddess of Eros (which have always represented as a man, but in this story is a girl), Charlie's the guy that befriends with Eros and she decides that he will be his first victim subject and will seek his true love and the other POV is from Eros´s new friend Katrina.

Basically this book is about Eros the god of love which is discovered by her father kissing her boyfriend Orion (from the mythology) a mortal, so Ares and Zeus decided to torture him for daring to lay eyes on a goddess, but since Eros is madly in love with him, decides to do anything to save him ...... so Zeus sends her to the mortal world and her task is to reunite/form three persons with their soul mate/true love, this without any of her powers and then she may save Orion. So for that task Eros ends up on earth, attending high school and trying to pair her new friend Charlie with his true love and getting into a lot of trouble because she doesn´t know how to be a mortal.

About the characters .... Eros as a goddess almost most of the book spends complaining and whining about the unfairness of her situation, so I didn´t like her much in the first part of the book. Katrina is a really shy girl and is having problems at home and Charlie is a very cute and basically a good guy, his character was my favorite.

This book was OKAY and funny (probably a 2.5/5), because there were parts that I liked especially Charlie´s chapters, but the firsts chapters of Eros are somewhat unbearable because of her attitude, but towards the end of the book she´s sort of likable, so I have hope in the next book. Only Everything is the first book of the True Love trilogy and for what I understood, each book will feature one of the three couples she must reunite to comply with her agreement with Zeus.

Waiting On Wednesday (127): Falling into Place

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The book I´m waiting this week is

Falling into Place by Amy Zhang
Release date: September 9th 2014
On the day Liz Emerson tries to die, they had reviewed Newton’s laws of motion in physics class. Then, after school, she put them into practice by running her Mercedes off the road.

Why? Why did Liz Emerson decide that the world would be better off without her? Why did she give up? Vividly told by an unexpected and surprising narrator, this heartbreaking and nonlinear novel pieces together the short and devastating life of Meridian High’s most popular junior girl. Mass, acceleration, momentum, force—Liz didn’t understand it in physics, and even as her Mercedes hurtles toward the tree, she doesn’t understand it now. How do we impact one another? How do our actions reverberate? What does it mean to be a friend? To love someone? To be a daughter? Or a mother? Is life truly more than cause and effect? Amy Zhang’s haunting and universal story will appeal to fans of Lauren Oliver, Gayle Forman, and Jay Asher.
